PRESS RELEASE

AN EMBRACE OF LOVE FOR OUR FELLOW PEOPLE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF KIFISSIA WHO ARE IN NEED

Tuesday, 14 April 2020

The ‘Marianna V. Vardinoyannis’ Foundation and the ‘ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with Cancer’ opened an embrace of love and support for our fellow human beings who belong to vulnerable groups (the needy) and have been hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.

On the initiative of President Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, and ahead of the Easter holidays, 450 packages of food were delivered on Holy Tuesday, 14 April 2020, to the Municipality of Kifissia, to be distributed to vulnerable (needy) families that have been hit by the health and economic crisis.

Mrs. Vardinoyannis personally, as well as the ELPIDA Association, have supported vulnerable groups in the Municipality of Kifissia for the past 10 years, taking care of them and supporting the Municipality’s social work in a variety of ways.

In fact, Mrs. Vardinoyannis wanted to speak to the Mayor of Kifissia, Giorgos Thomakos, via Skype to convey to him her best wishes for the holidays and, mainly, her support for the endeavour to help people in need. “I send you my thoughts and love. I’ll be with you for whatever you need. I wish you courage and strength in your difficult task. I wish you a Happy Easter!” Mrs. Vardinoyannis said, assuring Mr. Thomakos that her assistance will continue for our fellow citizens in greatest need.

The Mayor of Kifissia, Giorgos Thomakos, thanked the ELPIDA Association, the ‘Marianna V. Vardinoyannis’ Foundation and Marianna V. Vardinoyannis personally for supporting the Municipality’s vulnerable groups, congratulating her on the wonderful work she has done for so many years. “The work done by the ‘Marianna V. Vardinoyannis – ELPIDA’ Children’s Oncology Unit is an oasis of ‘Hope’. The fight for life on the part of the children and the medical and nursing staff is still on my mind from our recent visit. ELPIDA’S contribution is constantly transformed into action. Your key and longstanding support for the vulnerable groups and needy of our Municipality. We thank you.  The Municipality of Kifissia is a Municipality of Solidarity, and its Social Services are open around the clock to provide help for our fellow human beings. Happy Easter!”

The Mayor of Kifissia, Giorgos Thomakos, took receipt of the charity packages, along with the Deputy Mayor for Public Relations, Nina (Aspasia) Vlachou, who is coordinating the action, the President of Social Welfare, Katerina Karali, and Social Welfare member Vaso Kolovou, who thanked Mrs. Vardinoyannis for her donation. The 450 charity packages will gradually be distributed to vulnerable groups and needy people in the Municipality, while maintaining all of the preventive measures against the coronavirus.

The donation from the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation was made with funds that had been earmarked for the Foundation’s actions for the ‘Thermopylae – Salamis 2020’ Anniversary Year, which will be used in full to support vulnerable groups, as announced recently.

ELPIDA’s contribution is being funded by the Association’s Social Solidarity Fund for 2020, in support of vulnerable groups impacted by the pandemic crisis.
